Durian Fruit

Those who have tried the durian often consider it to be one
of the most delicious fruits on earth and thus, the durian, Durio zibethinus L.,
is often called the King of tropical fruits throughout Southeast Asia.
It grows on tall trees native to tropical Malaysia and Indonesia. |

The durian is shaped like a capsule and resembles a hedgehog.
Its rind is green and/or brown in color and is entirely covered with spikes and thus,
most people handle the durian with gloves to avoid injury. The durian divides into
five parts when ripe and each segment contains brown seeds. Its flesh can be white,
yellow, pinkish, or orange in color depending on the fruits variety and origin. Its
flavor is creamy and sweet although it is characterized by its strong smell. |

Selection & Storage: The
durian is ripe when it exudes a strong, but not sour aroma. The whole durian can be
stored at room temperature. After opening, the segments should be refrigerated in
a tightly sealed container for up to seven days. Wash your hands with durian seeds
to remove the odor of durian from your hands.

Display: Display with other
tropical fruits such as Starfruit, Mangos, Pummelo, Cherimoyas, Baby Pineapples, Papaya,
Rambutan and Lychees. |
